Dear Parents and Students,
We will have a few projects this year in our mathematics class. One will be a math investigation paper where each student will pick a math topic and write a paper on that topic. This is an individual assignment not a group project. Students will need access to the library and to a computer. As a reminder please contact me if you do not have access to a computer at home. I will work with you to fix the issue of access. I will post a rubric a week before I assign the project in class.
Another project we will undertake will be a collaborative learning project. This is a group project; no exceptions. The students will get into groups of three or four. Each student will be given a different set of data. They will use that data to discern their way through a maze and through the correct door at the end of the maze using the mathematics we have previously learned. There will be surprises in the maze and false clues to mislead the groups. Each group must draw the shape of the maze using the path they chose to escape with. The groups must also explain why they chose the path they chose and attempt to convert groups who do not agree. A rubric for this project will be posted a week before the project is due in class.
As a side note I will always give ample warning for when projects are due. There is no reason for them to be turned in late. If you are sick the day the project is due you will still need to send in your homework online. I will work something out with the parents of students without access to home computers in this instance.

Dear Parents,
Over the course of year we will be using technology in the classroom. I will incorperate clickers, computers, web 2.0 tools, and a smartboard into my mathematics lessons. I find the use of technology in the class room when used as a reinforcement is exceedingly helpful in helping students remember what they learned.
I will use the clickers during class as small quizes and reviews. These will not be for grades, but for me to have a better knowledge of just how much of the material each student has grasped. There will be a project assigned that requires the use of a computer. Please let me know if you do not have access to one outside of school. We can work out a schedule for your child to use one of the computers here at the school.

Welcome Students and Parents!
I hope we will have a great year together. I have posted this website in order to keep everyone up to date with what is going on in our classroom. Parents in order to ensure a smooth year I will keep an up to date homework list. I will post websites and videos for extra help and a running list of educational technology that may be helpful.
I want to keep an open dialog between my students, my parents, and myself. Students, if there are any questions I did not answer in class let me know and I will respond in twenty-four hours or less. Parents, if there is anything you would like to discuss please feel free to contact me.
