Dear Parents and Students,

We will have a few projects this year in our mathematics class. One will be a math investigation paper where each student will pick a math topic and write a paper on that topic. This is an individual assignment not a group project. Students will need access to the library and to a computer. As a reminder please contact me if you do not have access to a computer at home. I will work with you to fix the issue of access. I will post a rubric a week before I assign the project in class.

Another project we will undertake will be a collaborative learning project. This is a group project; no exceptions. The students will get into groups of three or four. Each student will be given a different set of data. They will use that data to discern their way through a maze and through the correct door at the end of the maze using the mathematics we have previously learned. There will be surprises in the maze and false clues to mislead the groups. Each group must draw the shape of the maze using the path they chose to escape with. The groups must also explain why they chose the path they chose and attempt to convert groups who do not agree. A rubric for this project will be posted a week before the project is due in class.

As a side note I will always give ample warning for when projects are due. There is no reason for them to be turned in late. If you are sick the day the project is due you will still need to send in your homework online. I will work something out with the parents of students without access to home computers in this instance.
